Piers Morgan And Coronation Street Actress In TV Sexism Row

The pair traded words in the presence of co host Susan Reid and former editor of the News of the World, with Reid form time intervening to speak up for women in support of Thorpe.

Morgan was his usually overwhelming self a he implicitly  accused the Coronation Street actress of hypocrisy for dressing up sexily on red carpets, only to complain that women were being taken advantage off by a ”sexist media”.

Nicola said ”women are always being told they look too sexy, too revealing. The photographs of men and the photographs of women on red carpets are reported  about much differently. If you just look at the language that is used to describe women”….. Neil Wallis immediately interrupted ”well don’t do it then. You are doing it to promote yourself”

One of the things that women feel is that what ever they wear they are going to be overanalysed”Don’t go on the red carpet then,”  both Morgan and Wallis jointly insisted.  Thorp continued: “I do not wish for women as a whole to be spoken about in that way. I’m attacking the sexism within the media.”

Piers , emphatic throughout in his tone said: “If a man turns up in a red carpet looking ridiculous, fatter than normal or his hair is all gone, he’ll get exactly the same treatment. I’ve had it myself. I don’t by into it that it’s only women. “Most bitchy people tend to be women about other women.”

At one point in the entertaining row, Morgan said Thorp looked hot on the show, clarifying that pictures or commentary about female stars looking good was natural, adding ”this is the world”.

Sexism in the media is not an allegation journalists want to hear, not especially if the underlying grounds do not hold up. Morgan was quite interruptive when Thorp was making her point, giving her inadequate opportunity to make her point, but the former Editor of the Mirror and Wallis were correct in their general analysis. Female stars are fully aware that if they turn up to award looking sexy, photographers will not miss the opportunity to snap them in a way that captures the best of their beauty and sexy look. Women who object to this should simply dress appropriately before showing up at the red carpet or not show up at all.
