Donald Trump has suspended the invitation of Theresa May’ to Britain.
The embattled U.S president told Theresa May during a phone conversation that he did not want to go ahead with the trip if it would lead to large scale demonstrations .
He reportedly wants the support of the British people , which he wouldn’t get at the moment. Trump is probably the most outspoken president the U.S has ever had, and is currently undergoing an investigation in relation to alleged association with Russian authorities to influence the 2016 American elections.
FIRE
The president has also come under increasing fire for firing the former FBI chief, James Comey , allegedly over the investigation into affiliation s with Russia.
Additionally, Trump’s views are very controversial, but his supporters credit him with speaking his mind and being hold. Those supposed strengths have not resonated with the British people , many of whom perceived him to be a lose canon occupying the highest office in the world.
The invitation of a state visit was widely frowned upon when it was originally announced , critics saying it was far too soon for such an honour to be extended to a newly inaugurated president.
No other president has been honoured with such a prestigious state visit so soon after becoming president , especially with the enormity of tense feelings against him.
Tensions between the public and President trump were exacerbated after Trump launched an attack against London Mayor, Sadiq Khan, when the Mayor urged Londoners in a tweet not to be alarmed at the visible presence of armed police in the streets.
Trump took aim at the Mayor in an attempt to undermine his comments and make him look stupid byaking reference to the number of dead and injurred victims in light of Khan’s comments. The U.S president was accused of taking he Mayor’s comments out of context . Trump’s comments were also branded to be ” ill informed”.
WISE
The decision by Donald Trump to suspend his visit to the Uk is a wise one. Wide demonstrations against him would have been inevitable . With the president currently caught up in investigations over the firing of former FBI chief, he has many pressing issues to deal with before planning a state visit in which mass demonstrations against his visit will be beamed around the world.
