By Ashley Young-
Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn has attacked overcrowded primary classrooms in the UK.
Corbyn attacked the fact that over 40,000 primary pupils were in classes of more than 36, whilst 16,0000 were in classes of at least 40.
The overcrowded numbers mean that teachers are less likely to be able to concentrate on individual weaknesses of children, leaving out children who need attention. Jeremy Corbyn decried the harm an even greater threat of larger sizes will have on the education of primary school children.
” Seven years of Tory failure and broken promised have left our schools in a Terri me star. Hundreds of thousands of our children are paying the price crammed into classrooms like sardines”.
” School leaders and teachers have said that They cuts to school budgets will mean. class sizes will be forced to grow even larger. We cannot risk our children’s education in this way”, he said.
REDUCTION
Reducing the number of students in primary schools is important in narrowing down the number of students each teacher needs to focus on.
36 students in a class are too much, there shouldn’t actually be more than 29 students in a classroom.
However, lowering the number of students in each class is just the first step to improving the education of primary school children. Ongoing research conducted by the eye of media.com suggests that the curriculum in most primary schools needs to be broader and higher, and teaching skills need to be improved.
These are extra factors Labour will have to consider in the very unlikely event they come into power. Theresa May’ s government have already been working on raising standards in primary schools in the UK, and the issue of class numbers is something they have to look at.
The Conservatives have been accused of cuts that have affected schools badly, but they say record amounts are being spent on schools.
