Louth TD Ruairí Ó Murchú of Sinn Féin has issued a fervent plea to prioritize the establishment of a comprehensive inquiry into the State’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.

With the haunting shadow of the Dealgan House Nursing Home tragedy looming large, Ó Murchú’s call comes as families continue to seek answers and closure on the fourth anniversary of the devastating events that claimed the lives of at least 22 residents.

The Dealgan House Nursing Home in Dundalk bore witness to one of the most harrowing Covid-19 outbreaks during the pandemic’s early days. Over a six-week period from March to May 2020, the facility experienced a staggering loss of life, leaving families shattered and communities reeling from the profound impact of the virus.

Families affected by the Dealgan House tragedy, the pursuit of truth and accountability has been a tireless and unwavering quest.

Despite facing formidable obstacles, including bureaucratic hurdles and institutional resistance, they have remained steadfast in their demand for transparency and justice.

Through relentless advocacy and tenacious pursuit of information, they have sought to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the deaths of their beloved parents and relatives.

A lawsuit has already been filed against the nursing home  by Jane Gracia, whose mother Valerie Anderson tragically succumbed to Covid-19 at Dealgan House in April 2020.

Gracia’s wrongful death claim against the privately owned care facility symbolizes the ongoing struggle for truth and accountability in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

In the midst of political upheaval and shifting priorities, the imperative to establish a comprehensive inquiry into the State’s Covid-19 response remains paramount.
