Over 25 million UK households will be targeted in a £2.4m campaign by The Electorate Commission to persuade people to vote, starting this week. There is only a fortnight to go before the 7th June deadline for voter registration.
As well as a major advertising campaign, every known household with a postal address in the UK will be sent a booklet on how to register to vote, and what to do on polling day. This is besides a £9m campaign to be spent by the government on leaflets to every U.K household to warn of the high cost of living that will follow from a Brexit. The government will warn of higher costs of goods and products, the loss of cheap flight deals to Europe, higher flight costs to countries like America, higher prices and other effects.
Concerns that the outcome of next months referendum may not fully reflect the wishes of the British people underlines the campaign by The Electoral Commission to maximize voting participation for this historical referendum. It is hoped that the targeting of over 25 million U.K households will influence millions of Britons whose voice on Europe will not be heard without the extra alert.
June’s referendum will infinitely shape not only the future of this country, but also the future of the world in terms of our relation to other countries. Whatever decision we take as a country will also have an impact on some other member countries of Europe, with some others choosing to pull out also if we do. Other consequences of our referendum include the potential of other none EU members like Turkey to eventually join the EU, empowering them with the right to enter Britain without restriction in droves, in the process putting unsustainable pressure on our schools and health care system.
The £2.4m campaign by the Electoral Commission will be expected to also detail the importance of every eligible British citizen to vote and be counted on this historical vote. It will be particularly crucial for citizens to also watch all televised debates on the referendum and research the topic broadly, in order to be adequately informed on this huge issue.
