SAT Tests passed By Over 60% Of Primary School Children

By Gavin Mackintosh-
Sixty percent of primary school children  passed their SATS exams, improving on last years results. It means that 6 out of every 10 primary school pupils attained the government’s expected standard for their end of primary school tests for the summer of 2017. It also means that 40% failed their SATS test, falling short of the required standards. This is the second year in which the SAT tests for year 6 pupils have been made tougher to raise the standards for primary school children.  The failure rate which appear to be high may be a sign of the higher level of the tests which demand higher level of teaching, and dedication of students.

According to the national data, 61% of pupils met the required target in reading, writing, mathematics and grammar in comparison with 53% last year. The improvement is commendable, and confirms the efforts of teachers and students in meeting those standards. The eye of media.com have been conducting research of academic standard of primary and secondary schools in the Uk in the past year, and we are unified in the view that the results are better than we expected.

Education standards minister, Nick Gibb applauded the results stating: “Today’s results show sustained progress in reading, writing and maths and are a testament to the hard work of teachers and pupils across England.

“Thanks to their commitment and our new knowledge-rich curriculum, thousands more children will arrive at secondary school having mastered the fundamentals of reading, writing and maths, giving them the best start in life.”

SATS COMPLAINTS

There had been strong complaints voiced by teachers and parents over the standard of the SAT tests, to the extent of the eye of media.com taking upon itself to closely assess a examination of the tests, in particular the reading and grammar tests, after teachers said some of their students had cried over the tests being difficult. Two members of the eye of media.com( including myself) and the editor have all independently began that process. The independent views of two university lecturers are also expected to be added to our evaluation which will be published once concluded.

HIGH SATS STANDARD

It can be said now that the standard is high enough to suggest that all primary students who pass are more than well equipped to do well in most good UK secondary schools, if they want to. There results show significant improvement in reading standards, with 71% of pupils reaching the expected standard compared with 66% last year. 75% of children  also met the expected standard in maths, compared with 70% last year, according to the national data.

SATS GRAMMAR

There results for grammar went up from 73% last year to 77%, with 76% of pupils meeting the expected standard in writing this summer, compared with 74% last year. The results in grammar are actually quite impressive and confirm that many primary schools raised their standard of preparation for this year’s SATS exams. The eye of media’s none exhaustive research so far has rated the standard of primary education in the UK to be lower than this year’s pass rate suggest. However, our research has not included primary school student’s in private education.

The results is surely a combination of both private and public primary school, and the eye of media.com intend on distinguishing between pass rates attained in public primary schools from those attained in public primary schools.
