Essex police is searching a garage block in connection with the murder of schoolgirl Danielle Jones in 2001.
The 15 year old teenager went missing after leaving her home in East Tilbury to catch a bus to school 16 years ago, and was never found. She was last said to have been seen entering a blue Transit van in Coronation Avenue on her way to school which her Uncle Stuart Cambell owned.
Campbell, of Grays, Essex was convicted and jailed for life for her kidnap and murder, yet has never admitted the crime or indicated to police where her body is. The basis of his conviction was the authorship of forensic analysis of text messages sent on the phone of Danielle Jones. Blood stained stockings of the missing teenager containing both her DNA and that of Campbell was also found in her Uncle’s(Cambell) loft, and and lip gloss belonging to Jones was found in the house of the then 43 year old builder.
The garage block in Stifford Clays has now suddenly popped up again as a strong possibility of the tragic teenage girl’s body may have been hidden. The suspected garage had bene flagged up during the 2001 investigation but not taken very seriously by investigating officers. However, information about ‘’unusual activity’’ there early this year has led to police taking up the matter as a serious line of inquiry. Daniel Jones’s disappearance dominated the news at the time, the fact her uncle was a suspect heightened concerned in the neighbourhood of Stifford Clays and among police and the media.
Campbell refused to provide an answer to 50 questions presented to him by detectives,
Assistant Chief Constable Steve Worron, who heads the SCD, said in a statement: “Over the course of the investigation more than 750 police officers and staff worked tirelessly to find out for her family what happened to Danielle.
“To date Stuart Campbell has shown no remorse for his crime and has not told police or Danielle’s family where her body is.
“We received information earlier this year that there had been unusual activity in the garage block around the time of Danielle’s disappearance.
‘’We are following a credible line of enquiry in respect of this garage block and I am absolutely committed to conducting a thorough and professional search to see if we can bring the Jones family any closer to knowing what happened to Danielle 16 years ago.”
Mr Worron said this search could “conclude once and for all” if this is where the body of the 15-year-old schoolgirl has been buried, adding that “any search of this kind is significant”.
The mother of Danielle Jones, Linda Jones, immediately fell out with the wife and sister of her husband , Terry Jones, over the disappearance of her 15 year old daughter. Evil Cambell, now 59, was believed to have developed an inappropriate relationship with Danielle Jones, and was known to have lured teenage girls into posing topless for pictures under false pretexts.
