Wristbands from Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s multi-million- dollar trial are being sold for up to £5k on reseller sites.
In what’s been one of the most captivating cases ever, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor was able to prove that his ex-wife Amber Heard’s 2018 article was, in fact, defamatory, and was awarded $15 million by the jury.
Depp received compensatory damages of 10 million dollars (£8 million) and a further five million dollars (£4 million) in punitive damages.
In a separate verdict, Heard was also awarded two million dollars (£1.6 million) in damages in a counterclaim against her ex over defamatory comments made by his lawyer Adam Waldman, who allegedly referred to her abuse claims as a ‘hoax’.
On eBay, a ‘Johnny Depp Trial Wristband Overflow’ was sold for a whopping $375 (£298.94).
..TMZ say that they looked through ‘tons of listings’ and found some sellers who were looking for ‘nearly 4-figures’ for a paper bracelet.
The bracelets gave the wearer access to the courtroom and “is a piece of celebrity culture history. The wristbands are not fancy or specially made, they are your typical paper wristbands you see at events.”
Heard, 36, and Depp, 58, were embroiled in a contentious defamation trial with the “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor suing the “Stepfather” actress for $50 million over allegations of abuse in a 2018 Washington Post op-ed she penned. Heard countersued her ex for $100 million.
A verdict was reached on June 1, with the jury awarding Depp $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages. Virginia law states that punitive damages must be capped at $350,000, meaning Depp will actually receive a maximum total of $10.35 million. Heard was awarded $2 million in compensatory damages and no punitive damages.
Heard is believed to be “broke” and unable to pay the hefty judgement due to mounting legal costs and alleged lavish spending.
