By Tony O’Riley-
Alan Jones, a journalist for Sky News Australia , has become the latest to exhibit racist tendencies, by going on television to launch an unjustified attack on Meghan Markle, by undermining the seriousness of racism and mental health issues.
The 80 year old former broadcaster went further than former television host,, who was forced to step down for comments less serious than those expressed by the Jones. The journalist’s comments are unfortunate, and a sad disgrace to Sky News, who pay his wages. His bosses must be intelligent enough to see the harm and poor judgement in his comments.
Jones labelled Meghan Markle “unworthy” and “fake” during his fiery diatribe. His attack, directed at Meghan, after her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, revealed a period of intense distress which led the Duchess Of Sussex to feel suicidal. She said she felt suicidal due to a stream of restrictions which saw he go out twice in four months.
On top of that, the Duchess Of Sussex said she had to endure numerous false stories about her in the press, while being unable to respond to them due to royal protocol. When she asked for the false stories to be corrected, and sought help for her mental health issues, she was denied help by the “firm”, she said.
Meghan also revealed that her husband Prince Harry, relayed conversations from a member of the royal family, speculating on how dark the colour of the child would be.
These assertions were challenged by Alan Jones in a similar vain, even though similar comments made by Piers Morgan attracted the highest ever number of complaints to Ofcom.
Alan, who is a former Australian national rugby team coach, told his Sky News Australia audience: “I am sure there were many people reaching for the chuck bucket over this Oprah Winfrey interview with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.
“If these two had any public support left, which I doubt – it was all lost today.” Jones then hit out at Meghan’s refusal to name the alleged Royal member who had made comments about Archie’s skin colour.
Alan continued: “The Meghan Markle way you see.
“Condemn everyone name no one – the tactic of an unworthy person.”
There will no doubt many people reaching for the chuck bucket of Jones’s comments.
Alleged Untruths
Jones then turned on Harry, saying that he has been taken in by Meghan: “Prince Harry would appear as long gone captured by the untruths spread by Ms Markle and the victimhood she professes to endure.”
Youth worker, Ashinica Simon, a youth worker from East London, who educates children about racism, told The Eye Of Media.Com:
”its incredible that a journalist can display such alarming level of racism, and not be aware of it. Alan Jones is a disgrace to journalism. It is also a disgrace to the press, who shamelessly report the views of racists in their industry, without rebuking them. The British press seem to use the voices of racists from their industry to promote their course. What a disgrace”.
Those who watched the Oprah Winfrey documentary will be aware that it was Prince Harry, who wouldn’t reveal the identity of the royal member who mentioned how dark the colour of their unborn baby was.
The fact Jones has directed his focus on Meghan Markle, rather than Prince Harry, to whom the comment was made, and who was protecting the identity of the family member, is what makes him racist.
Worth noting is that Prince Harry’s decision not to identify the individual was a reasonable one. Revealing their identity would have heaped irreparable damage on the family member in question. Besides, the Palace hasn’t denied the claim, except to say there might be ‘varying recollections’- amounting to neither a denial, nor an admission.
Oversight
The fact Mr, Jones overlooked complaints of racism and mental health issues voiced by Meghan, and chose to attack her, exposes him as a racist. Many British people were saddened by the revelations contained in the interview, but many others without conscience have been comfortable to simply attack Meghan.
Jones, a popular Sydney breakfast radio program, on radio station 2GB from 2002 until 2020, and was a speech writer at the office of the Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser, and in musical theatre
Australia has an awful past of racism which cannot be denied. Although indigenous Australians were recognised under British common law as British subjects, with equal rights under the law, colonial government policy and public opinion treated Aboriginal peoples as inferior.
Jones has worked as a school teacher, and a speech writer in the office of the Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser, he was raised in a privileged background, where he obtained a position at Brisbane Grammar School.
