West Yorkshire Police Hunt For Man After Midnight Burglary Attempt In Huddersfield

By James Simons-

Police have released a striking image of a man they want to speak to following an attempted burglary at a residential property in Huddersfield. Officers were called to Cross Green Road in Dalton at around midnight on Saturday, July 25, after reports of an attempted break-in at a home. West Yorkshire Police has now issued a photograph of a man who officers believe may be able to assist with their investigation.

The unusual appearance of the photograph is likely to catch the attention of local residents. With its distinctive, almost “funky” visual quality, the image has a striking look that could make the man easier for members of the public to recognise. Police are hoping that someone familiar with the area, or who may have seen the individual around the time of the incident, will recognise him and come forward.

Dalton is covered by the Huddersfield Neighbourhood Policing Team, which includes several surrounding communities across the area. West Yorkshire Police has urged anyone with information about the attempted burglary to contact officers.

The appeal comes against a backdrop of continuing concern about burglary across Kirklees. Police-recorded data analysed from data.police.uk shows that Kirklees recorded around 1,600 burglary incidents over a 10-month period from October 2024 to July 2025, an average of more than 160 incidents a month. The figures show burglary remained a persistent category of crime across the district during that period.

More recent area-level figures also show burglary remains a notable concern in parts of Dalton. Crime data for a Dalton, Huddersfield postcode area recorded a burglary rate of 4.82 offences per 1,000 residents over the 12 months from April 2025 to March 2026. Other nearby Dalton areas recorded rates ranging from around 2.7 to more than five burglaries per 1,000 residents, illustrating how crime levels can vary from one neighbourhood to another.

However, the wider picture in Kirklees has shown some improvement. A Kirklees Council report stated that residential burglary incidents fell by 13 per cent between April and December 2024/25, representing 147 fewer incidents during that period. The council said residential burglary was forecast to remain below its annual target.

Despite that reduction, an attempted burglary can leave residents feeling vulnerable, particularly when it occurs late at night. The reported incident on Cross Green Road happened at approximately midnight, a time when many households would expect their homes to be secure and quiet. Police have not said that the man pictured is responsible for the attempted burglary. Instead, officers are asking for the public’s help in identifying someone they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

Anyone who recognises the man pictured or has information about the incident is asked to contact West Yorkshire Police on 101 or through the force’s online LiveChat service, quoting police log 13260423056. Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

For residents in Dalton, the distinctive photograph could prove crucial. A familiar face, a remembered sighting or a small piece of information could give detectives the lead they need as they continue investigating the attempted break-in
