A West Midlands GP has been jailed for 12 years after being convicted of using his position to sexually assault four female patients.
Jaswant Rathore was jailed for conducting unnecessary massages in what was described as “a shocking breach of trust”.
The attacks occurred between 2008 and 2015 at Castle Meadows Surgery, Dudley.
60 year old Bothore of Ploughman’s Walk, Wall Heath, was also placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely at Wolverhampton Crown Court after a seven-week trial. He was cleared of a further eight allegations relating to four other patients. The deranged doctor was employed to provide a professional service, but instead chose to exploit his position by sexually abusing his patients.
Jailing Rathore, Judge Michael Challinor said the married father-of-five’s professional and personal life was a “complete shipwreck” after his conviction.
He said: “You used your standing within the community as a cloak behind which you could carry out sexual assaults on your patients for your personal gratification.
“By your actions you violated the faith they had in you to carry out legitimate medical procedures.
“Some of your behaviour demonstrated a breathtaking degree of arrogance – you no doubt hoping your standing in the medical community would enable you to talk your way out of any difficulty.”
The judge said Rathore’s offences constituted a “shocking breach of trust”. Rathore was consequently made the subject of a 15-year sexual harm prevention order.
INAPPROPRIATE
One of his patients had told the court how she had gone to see the doctor about pain in her hips.
Without proper consent, Dr Rathore removed her clothes and touched her inappropriately. This made her feel uncomfortable and distressed, the jury heard.
Ian Pinkney, from the CPS said the doctor “preyed on women who contacted him for medical assistance”.
