A U.S police body camera failed to capture the killing of a black teenager, as he tried to flee from police.
Baltimore police are under fire after an 18 year old American, Paul O’Neil, was shot and killed by U.S police as he exited a stolen Jaguar on July 28, and tried to flee.
The drama began when the youngster rejected police request for him to stop, but instead led them on a chase that ended with the 18 year old crashing into a pile of parked police cars, and another vehicle.
Police dashboard cameras captured the first shot fired, but not the rest. According to eye witnesses, after O’ Neil got out of the car to escape, he was shot by police, and killed.
Police are said to have infringed CPD rules in their decision to fire the subsequent shots, and three officers have accordingly been suspended.
Suspension will not revive the dead boy or console his family unless some sort of justice is achieved. Justice for a car thief, killed most likely because he was black, and also a thief.
The killing once again highlights the extent of police brutality against Afro Americans, although the known fact the circumstances rim was a car thief in this case makes the victim.a bad guy taken out early.
Victims of car crime may silently celebrate O’Neil’s death in terms of getting one thief off the streets. The horrifying reality is that even a car thief is entitled to a fair treatment and most importantly, life.
