The U.S. Navy’s USS Carney intercepted a series of cruise missiles and drones launched by the iran aligned Yemen’s Houthi rebels from Yemen, believed to be heading forIsrael.
The Pentagon made this revelation on Thursday, confirming that the USS Carney, an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, played a pivotal role in preventing a potential threat to Israel.
The interception, executed with remarkable precision, has been hailed as a testament to the integrated air and missile defense architecture deployed in the region.
Pentagon spokesperson Brig. Gen. Patrick Ryder, in a press briefing, provided essential details about the operation.
“This action was a demonstration of the integrated air and missile defense architecture that we have built in the Middle East, and that we are prepared to utilize whenever necessary to protect our partners and our interests in this important region,” he stated.
Notably, he emphasized that there were no casualties among U.S. forces involved in the operation, and to the best of their knowledge, no civilians on the ground were harmed.
The intercepted missiles, categorized as “land attack cruise missiles,” were launched from inside Yemen, and their trajectory was directed north along the Red Sea, with their potential destination presumed to be Israel.
This development highlights the persistent security challenges in the region, with Houthi rebels in Yemen possessing the capability to threaten neighboring countries.
