The U.S claims to have identified the Russian agents behind the alleged hacking that led to by Donald Trump’s election victory in November, accordinng to reports.
Washington is adamant that alleged hackers sent stolen Democratic emails to WikiLeaks in a bid to swing the vote for Mr
Russia has denied any involvementin any hackinhg, a denial WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has always supported.
Assange said he alone in the world knows the source of his information, stressing that Russia definitely was not the source.
Vice-President Joe Biden has heavily criticised the president-elect for attacking the intelligence community over the claims. He said it was “absolutely mindless” not to have faith in the agencies. However Biden’s view is faulty because serious claims like that being made by the U.S government needs to be backed up, and president -elect Trump should not be expected to easily support a claim that suggests his election victory was defrauded by Russia.
The allegations of hacking by Russia is quite possible, senior officials say the Russians have the capability to conduct the sort of hacking that could have interfered with the election process. This, in addition to other specific knowledge they have of various Russian individuals is one of the factors that strongly persuaded the U.S intelligence to conclude this.
President Obama has already admitted his belief that the counting process was legitimate and without any possible outside interference. Obama’s main issue surrounds information he has been given that mass hacking from Russia influenced the outcome of the elections. Last week, the president ordered the deportation of a number of Russian diplomats in the U.S in response to the alleged cyber attacks.
President -elect Trump is due to be shown the evidence soon- in the meantime, Trump has rubbished the claims.
U.S vice president, Biden said he had read a US intelligence report outlining Russian involvement, the details of which are emerging in US media.
News outlets like CNN, the Washington Post and NBC News have cited intelligence sources, saying that agencies had intercepted communications in the aftermath of the election showing senior Russian government officials celebrating Donald Trump’s win over rival Hillary Clinton. A celebration of Trump’s victory does not prove involvement in hacking, but suggests their preference of Trump over Hillary Clinton.
However, other claims by giant U.S news outlets to have also identified individuals who acted as go-betweens who delivered stolen Democratic emails to the Wikileaks website have bene made. News outlets are expected to be honest when making such claims, considering how easy it would be for the public to discover if they were lying. The claim will get minds thinking, but no further details have been disclosed. Further details will need to be revealled and the timing of all this, just 2 weeks away from the inauguration of president-elect Trump makes one wonder what may be cooking in the air. It will present an etra ordinary twist if the alleged hacking is proved, the mai question being what would result from such
