Amber Heard has named her new dog Barnaby Joyce, after the Australian minister with whom she had a feud in 2015.
The Aquaman and Drive Angry star named the dog in memory of a dispute with Mr Joyce, over a quarantine breach involving two other dogs which she brought to Queensland when visiting her ex-husband Johnny Depp.
Depp was filming one of the Pirates of the Caribbean films when Heard brought the pets over in 2015.
That year, she brought them to Queensland to visit her then husband Johnny Depp, who was filming one of the Pirates of the Caribbean films there.
The couple were given days to remove the Yorkshire Terriers, or they would be put down.
The incident provoked a war of words with the deputy prime minister, who was agriculture minister at the time. Mr Joyce said the dogs should “bugger off” and Depp called Mr Joyce some kind of “sweaty, big-gutted man from Australia”.
Mr Depp fired back, referring to Mr Joyce as some kind of “sweaty, big-gutted man from Australia”.
On Sunday, the actress – who has since divorced Mr Depp – introduced the new dog in a tweet
“Just because he’s Johnny Depp does not mean he’s exempt from Australian law,” then-agriculture minister Barnaby Joyce said.
“There is a process if you want to bring animals – you get the permits, they go into quarantine and then you can have them.
“It’s time that Pistol and Boo buggered off back to the United States.”
Mr Joyce told The Australian he was “fine” with the name choice and added he had “no problems with animals”.
“I get a real sense of accomplishment that I’m still in her head long after I’ve forgotten about them,” he said.
