Former undisputed world heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury has sensationally announced that he is in talks for a December showdown with WBC title Deontey Wilder.
Unbeaten Fury who is scheduled to meet Francesco Pianeta in August, has been heavily criticised since his return to the ring for moving too slowly in his choice of come back opponents. Pianetta is expected to give tough Fury a few rounds of ring exercise but nothing that will ruffle the former heavyweight champion or risk the big pay day, he and his promoter Frank Warren, may be going for in setting up the big fight with Wilder.
”I can confirm that me and Deontay Wilder are in negotiations,’ Fury said in a video posted on Twitter. ‘Very close to being done. Frank told you all on talkSPORT this morning. It’s out there now.
”I can reveal that negotiations are very strong for December. We’re almost done with this deal but I won’t be looking over Francesco Pianeta, he’s going to give me the right fight and the right work to prepare me for Deontay Wilder. I’ve got to flatten him first and then Wilder, let’s dance.
‘You know you’ve been dealing with s*** houses in the past with Eddie Hearn and Anthony Joshua but I am a man of my word and if I say I’ll fight, I’ll fight you. End of.
‘Prepare well, train hard, let’s get the deal done. I’m going to knock Francesco Pianeta into next week and I’m going to knock you spark out too. Good luck.”
Fury is currently unbeaten in 26 fights and will be 27-0 by the time he meets Wilder in his attempt to regain one of the heavyweight belts he lost after beating Wladimir Klitschko in 2015. Fury has up until now resisted calls for a clash with Tony Bellew, who shocked David Haye with a fifth round stoppage last May, avoiding the risk of a defeat which he would rather take with Wilder for huge bucks and the WBC strap round his waist

There can be no mistake of Fury having doubts of loosing to Wilder. He will have over 3 stones advantage over Wilder who doesn’t come in at over 15.5 stones, but if he is not in very good shape, he will get knocked out cold by Wilder who moves fast and packs a big punch. Fury really should be fighting a half decent fighter like Bellew first, before going for Wilder, but the money he will get for meeting Bellew simply won’t match what he will get for fighting Wilder. His pay cheque will even multiply many times over if he beats the American, but it will be a mistake if Fury thinks a 3 stonnes advantage over Wilder will secure him victory.
Warren had previously said he would get Fury four warm up fights before putting him against anybody serious, but it seems Fury might have been in his promoter’s ears, seeking to take advantage of Wilder’s failed chase of Joshua for a unified title fight. Boxing fans will be excited at the news, but this is the biggest risk Fury will be taking with his career. His only guarantee will be big bucks, but it is difficult to believe that his two fights back against mild opposition will prepare him well enough for a destructive fighter like Deontey Wilder.
