Twitter has today been restoring the locked accounts of many users , who were locked out of their accounts when they were underage, or suspected to have been underage.
The legal age allowed for users is 13, much lower than the benchmark age of 16 applied in other cases. younger than 13. Some users began complaining bitterly as soon as they reached the permitted age of 13 , creating a new task for twitter to deal with. Twitter says it has began the process of restoring locked accounts to those who are now of age to use their platform, even though it really is a bad idea.
Higher up the scales of its news was the revelation it is finally modernising its core APIs and wants early feedback from developers. Today, the social media giant has decided to launch Twitter Developer Labs, enabling app makers can sign up for to experiment with pre-release beta APIs.
The company says it wants to simplify its services for developers, make them easier to use, and offer more features. Twitter is beginning through its Developer Labs program to help developers test new API endpoints and be part of the process.
“We know that we have to rebuild trust with some groups of developers, and that we have to maintain trust with everybody building on our platform,” Twitter product manager Ian Cairns told VentureBeat. “And I think that the Labs program is a very clear, concrete example of how we intend to do that. By inviting them to give us feedback on what we’re building, and including their voices in the future of the platform.”
Twitter is beginning by launching the Twitter Developer Labs program to let developers preview new features and test new API products before they are finalised. Participating developers will be asked to provide feedback on what they like and don’t like ahead of the broad roll out.
The first functional changes will include real-time streaming access to the Twitter firehose with an expanded filtering accompanied by impressions and engagement metrics and added newer features Polls to the API.
The news confirms twitter’s drive to innovate its platform, but many are still waiting to hear when it will implement a mechanism that allows users to control and eliminate internet trolls on its platforms. Internet trolls is the biggest problem of twitter, and something the social media giant needs to address with urgency.
