Donald Trump has unexpectedly accelerated diplomatic efforts toward brokering an immediate cessation of hostilities in the long-running Israel-Hamas conflict.
The former President recently indicated a comprehensive agreement to end the war in Gaza was “very close,” expressing extreme optimism about achieving an unprecedented resolution in the Middle East.
Trump publicly declared that “all are on board for something special,” signaling a belief that his current initiative possesses widespread international support unlike previous undertakings.

This intensified pressure campaign culminates in a pivotal White House meeting scheduled between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Despite the President’s optimistic framing of the emerging deal, Netanyahu continues contradicting this message, having recently vowed at the UN General Assembly to “finish the job” in Gaza regardless of external pressure.
Notably, Trump’s Gaza peace plan faces complex political hurdles stemming from these very public disagreements, especially concerning Israeli military objectives. Furthermore, the plan’s success hinges upon the reaction from the militant group Hamas, which is currently reviewing the proposal’s terms.
Hostage families, desperately awaiting the return of their loved ones, offered strong public backing for the diplomatic initiative ahead of the high-stakes leaders’ summit. They implored Trump in a heartfelt letter to remain steadfast “against any attempts to sabotage the deal” he presented, emphasizing the urgency felt by those suffering.
Conversely, the President issued a stern warning concerning the deal’s potential rejection: Israel would receive his “full backing” to completely eliminate the militant group if Hamas choose to refuse the proposal. These escalating dynamics echo challenges faced by previous US Mideast efforts over decades.
Crucial attention now focuses squarely on the White House meeting, which many analysts deem an ultimate test of influence over the Israeli Prime Minister’s wartime strategy. Observers note former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair is reportedly involved in the delicate negotiations surrounding the withdrawal framework.
The ultimate goal of Trump’s Gaza peace plan remains an immediate ceasefire coupled with a mass hostage release. Failure to secure this breakthrough risks further military escalation in the region. Trump’s Gaza peace plan represents a bold diplomatic manoeuvre.
