The trial of four U.S police officers over the killing of George Floyd will be shown live on TV here in the UK.
Court TV, an American channel which features the cases of high-profile criminal trials, will be launching in the UK this month.
Court TV will also show the trial of three white men accused of killing Ahmaud Arbery, a black man in Georgia. In June, Arbery was shot while out running.
The channel’s analysis includes expert “gavel-to-gavel” coverage of trials as they happen.
Floyd’s death on 25 May triggered protests and riots across the US and led to demonstrations by the Black Lives Matter movement across the globe.
Floyd died after a white police officer held him down by pressing a knee into his neck for nine minutes.
Derek Chauvin has been charged with murder and manslaughter, while three others – Thomas Lane, J Alexander Kueng and Tou Thao – face charges of aiding and abetting murder and manslaughter.
The prosecution of Derek Chauvin for the killing of George Floyd, whose death in May sparked mass Black Lives Matter protests around the world is expected to be a hit, as millions of viewed are glued to their television screens watching the dramatic case.
Jonathan Katz, president of the company behind Court TV, said: “There’s been nothing like Court TV in the United Kingdom until now,
“American crime dramas have long been a staple on television worldwide, including the U.K., while global consumer interest in the real-life drama of true-crime programming has skyrocketed, with American reality crime content as the most-watched.
Court TV is the only network covering these cases and these events live, as they happen, from start to finish. We anticipate viewers in the U.K. will embrace having a front-row seat to American criminal justice.”
