Theresa May To Outline UK Reataliatory Measures Against Russia

By Ben Kerrigan-

UK Prime Minister Theresa May will outline the UK’s retaliatory plans to after Moscow ignored a deadline to explain how a lethal nerve agent was used to attack a former Russian spy and his daughter in Britain.

May has called for an urgent UN meeting and will chair a meeting of the UK’s National Security Council. Theresa May plans to “update members on the investigation into the nerve agent attack in Salisbury,” the UK Foreign Office tweeted on Wednesday. The UK prime minister is also expected to make a statement in Parliament which can have a serious impact on the already fragile relationship between the UK and Russia

A demanded deadline for Moscow to respond by midnight Tuesday, to how a Russian linked nerve agent poisoning of Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia on a park bench in Salisbury, has been rejected. The office of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov categorically stated Moscow would not respond to London’s ultimatum without receiving a sample of the nerve agent in question.

PRECARIOUS

The situation is precarious and requires wise action well measured. The full facts to the investigation will need to be determined and it is important Russia is left in no doubt that the nerve agent used in Salisbury was from Russia. Without such irrefutable proof, Moscow might see the claim from the UK as empty propaganda based on suspicion. It can be taken forgranted that the nerve agent is from Russia since there is no way the UK government would have announced this finding as a fact without thorough confirmation.

In cases this serious, full transparency and communication is vital to eliminate any suspicions or accusations of any ulterior motive. Russia would deny any involvement even if they were guilty , making it all the more crucial there is no room for dispute in relation to the facts of this horrid occurrence and any consequences that are to follow.
