Talking Therapy Is An Often Missed Out Useful Mechanism In Tackling Depression

By Charlotte Webster-

Talking therapy is a widely missed tool in tackling depression in the Uk because many sufferers do not have someone they feel confident to talk to.

The service is available on the NHS, but many suffers of depression do not trust strangers enough to discuss their problem in depth. One in four people in the Uk suffer from anxiety, depression, or both, but only few have somebody professional they can trust to discuss their in depth problems.

Depression is a common mental health problem that dampens people’s mood and causes them loss of interest or pleasure,  low self-esteem,  or appetite, low energy, and poor concentration. Depression symptoms may vary among people but generally include an intense feeling of sadness or hopelessness. Many loose sleep, feel lonely or worthless. The most worrying cause of depression is that caused by genetic factors.

Talking therapies involving  confidential discussions with a trained professional about problems or issues  causing concern can be very helpful.  Talking therapies include cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), counselling and psychotherapy. They can help sufferers identify the cause or potential cause of their depression and brainstorm or discover ways to address the depression.  Depression caused my low self esteem can be addressed by exploring ways to build your confidence, if it means working harder to be able to earn more money, or going on s disciplined diet to loose weight whilst also training.

Many people who suffer from depression find it difficult to do the things that could help them beat their depression. Many also find it difficult to talk to somebody about the issues causing them depression. Having professionals with whom one can discuss their issues of depression is a very helpful starting point. Counsellors and therapists are a very helpful way of beating depression, for those serious about it Discussing one’s issues with Psychologists can also be very useful because it allows the sufferer to open up more about their problems.

EXPENSIVE

Talking therapy can be expensive to hire, ranging between £30 and £50, but  it is worth it when using good therapists. There are also many other professionals with the same type of skills as talking therapists who can help sufferers beat depression. ness and hopelessness. A bleak outlook—nothing will ever get better and there’s nothing you can do to improve your situation.

Depression has many forms , ranging from loss of interest in daily activities,  appetite , indifference  about  pastimes, social activities, or sex. You’ve lost your ability to feel joy and pleasure. My formal training is in Humanistic Counselling based on Person-Centred approach. The humanistic approach provides you with an opportunity to explore your self-development, so you have a deeper understanding of who you are and what are  feeling, resulting in improved self-awareness. My person-centred approach means that I strive to build a collaborative and trusting relationship which will allow you to focus on what is important to you because you are the expert of your life.

PERSON CENTRED APPROACH

Most therapists use a  Person-Centred approach to address issues of depression, but they must be combined with the willingness of the client to make necessary adjustments.  Experienced therapist Michael Anderton told The Eye Of Media.Com: ‘

”  A good therapist adopts a  humanistic approach which  provides individuals  with an opportunity to explore  their self-development, reflect on the circumstances that has brought them to were thereby providing them with a deeper understanding of their identity and the contributing causes to their  current state of being and how and why they feel they way they do. This state of candid reflection can raise their level  of self-awareness and help them develop a strong level of resistance to the pitfalls and volatile experiences of various states they feel.

A person-centred approach seeks to build a collaborative and trusting relationship enabling them to focus on what is important to them and what steps they can take to get there. This may sometimes mean not only identifying what  sacrifices they need to make, but also them happily embracing those steps as a necessary path to their full recovery. People have different stories and different factors influencing their mindset and situation, but all of them can take steps to reverse the ills of depression robbing them of their joy and turning them into unpleasant and miserable people”.

This organisation is working with  few individuals suffering with acute depression, and helping them address and overcome what is a psychological and mental form of illness. Working with researchers, psychologists and therapists can help sufferers of depression make real progress and turn a new leaf.
