The biggest fight in boxing history between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier is to feature in a star-studded, must-see live on spike event reportedly different from any other fight previously shown before or after.
The first bout in the epic trilogy of fights between boxing greats, Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier will be re-lived when this riveting film is eventually filmed.
The great fight which took place on March 8, 1971 from Madison Square Garden in New York City was over 15 tough rounds, during a time when there was only one true heavyweight champion of the world. Spike TV will journey through that memorable night when they screen Ali: Birth of The Greatest.”
The special one hour narrated by Ice T, premieres on Spike Friday, September 9 at 11:15 pm ET/PT directly following LIVE coverage of the highly-anticipated rematch between middleweights Danny Jacobs vs. Sergio Mora.
Muhammad Ali, was a special gem with a personality larger than life. His impact on the sport was phenomenal, and will span many generations to come in terms of the weight of his legacy and the high standards he set as an ambassador for sports and most revolutionary sports figure the world has ever known.
Ali was also a polarizing figure, with many indiscretions that characterized his shortcomings, most notably his wide aspersions on race inspired by his unshakable allegiance to the Nation Of Islam whose doctrines were rooted in the teachings of Prophet Elijah Muhammad.
They were premised on a reaction to the unbridled racism in America, but not a proportionate response to wisely redressing the discriminatory woes that had befallen Afro Americans in that age. The wherewithal to diplomatically address the the issue was not one of his strong points. Ali was an angry, direct, and impulsive character, who went tooth and nail against the establishment. He was neither prudent or measured, but was bold, charming, intelligent and had a burgeoning ability to fight with skill and endurance.
