Singer-songwriter Raye (pictured)has made history with an unprecedented seven Brit Award nominations, surpassing the previous record held jointly by Craig David, Gorillaz, and Robbie Williams.
The recognition comes in a year marked by a notable shift towards gender diversity, with female artists dominating the nominations in key categories.
Raye’s nominations include the coveted Artist of the Year, where she is joined by fellow female artists Jessie Ware, Olivia Dean, Little Simz, Arlo Parks, and Dua Lipa, as well as male counterparts Dave, Central Cee, J Hus, and Fred Again.
The expansion of the Artist of the Year category from five to ten slots is seen as a response to last year’s criticism when an all-male lineup emerged after the merging of the best British male and female categories.
In the international category, female artists continue to shine, with Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo among the eight nominees in the ten-strong lineup for International Artist of the Year. Notably absent are high-profile male artists Ed Sheeran and Lewis Capaldi, who missed out on recognition in the Artist of the Year and Album of the Year categories.
