Sir Elton John set alight Glastonbury festival with his weekend excellent display of talent and showmanship..

The event marked the end of the 76-year-old’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.

Sir Elton John wowed fans with hit after hit during his Sunday night performance at Glastonbury. Many fans were left feeling emotional after the two-hour set that included crowd pleasers such as Rocketman, Tiny Dancer, Your Song and I’m Still Standing.

His collaboration with Dua Lipa towards the conclusion of  his show, fans were encouraged to sing along to her part “and sing it loudly”.

He also paid tribute to the late George Michael, his “friend” and “inspiration”, noting that the day would have marked his 60th birthday and thanking him for the “gorgeous” music he left behind. “This is for you, George,” he said, before none other than Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me.

Fans had been queuing since 4am in the morning at Worthy Farm to get the best views of what was a significant moment in music history.

At 9pm the superstar walked on to the stage in a gold suit before taking a seat at the piano, opening his set with Pinball Wizard as fireworks went off over the famous Pyramid Stage.

Sir Elton told the crowd: “I never thought I would ever play Glastonbury and here I am.

“It’s a very special and emotional night for me because it might be my last show ever in England, so I had better play well and I had better entertain you, you’ve been standing there so long and I really appreciate all the outfits and everything

After a rendition of Someone Saved My Life Tonight, he told the crowd: “When I chose my guests for this show I wanted to have newer artists, save for one person, and this boy I heard last year on the radio… I’ve asked him to come to Glastonbury to do his song and he’s an amazing young talent.”

“He was my friend, he was an inspiration, and today would have been his 60th birthday, so I want to dedicate this song to his memory.

Sir Elton bade farewell to the crowd, saying: “I want to thank you all for dressing up in your costumes, your glasses and your outfits, it makes me feel so happy and so loved.

“I also want to thank you for 52 years of amazing love and loyalty that you’ve shown me. It’s been an incredible journey.

“I’ve had the best time, I will never forget you, you’re in my head and my heart and my soul, you’ve been amazing.

“You’ve been an incredible crowd tonight. I wish you love and health and happiness.”

Death Incident

The brilliant occasion brought with it the bad news that a man in his forties was found dead at the event.  The incident happened on a footpath – popularly known as the old railway line – at the sprawling Somerset site shortly before 4am on Sunday.

Avon and Somerset Police said “emergency services responded to [a] medical incident involving a man”.

The force added: “Sadly, the man died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

“The man’s death is not being treated as suspicious and officers are carrying out enquiries on behalf of the coroner.
