A serving Metropolitan Police officer, PC Jake Cummings, has been remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to charges of rape, stalking, and coercive behaviour towards a woman.
The allegations include installing cameras at her workplace, monitoring her whereabouts, and emotionally blackmailing her.
PC Cummings, 23, from Hemel Hempstead, appeared in person at St Albans Crown Court for the plea hearing on Monday. He faced accusations of raping the victim on February 1, along with multiple incidents of controlling and coercive behavior spanning from January 2022 to February 2024.
The prosecution detailed disturbing claims of Cummings’ alleged actions, which reportedly involved isolating the victim from her support network, monitoring her movements through phone software, and installing cameras at her workplace. Additionally, it’s alleged that he emotionally manipulated her by threatening suicide and arranged unnecessary medical appointments for her, asserting control over her actions and whereabouts.
Furthermore, Cummings faces a third charge related to stalking, encompassing various intimidating behaviors such as loitering near her workplace, waiting outside her friends’ addresses, and intimidating her family members.
During the court proceedings, PC Cummings affirmed his identity and pleaded not guilty to all charges. The alleged offenses occurred during his off-duty hours, leading to his suspension from duty within the Met’s Central West Command.
In response to the severity of the allegations, Judge Francis Sheridan remanded Cummings into custody pending further hearings. The case is set to reconvene at St Albans Crown Court on May 17 for additional proceedings.
