Russian Foreign Minister Warns Of Real Danger Of World War III

Ben Kerrigan-

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Monday that peace talks with Ukraine would continue, and warned that there was a “real” danger of a World War III.

Speaking to Russian news agencies, he criticized Kyiv’s approach to the talks, adding: “Good will has its limits. But if it isn’t reciprocal, that doesn’t help the negotiation process.

He also said there was a “considerable” risk of the conflict escalating to nuclear weapons
But Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba respondd that Lavrov is just trying to “scare the world off supporting Ukraine”

Russia “senses” its defeat in Ukraine and is therefore trying to intimidate the West against supporting Kyiv by warning of the threat of World War III breaking out, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has tweeted.

“Russia loses last hope to scare the world off supporting Ukraine. Thus the talk of a ‘real’ danger of WWIII. This only means Moscow senses defeat in Ukraine.

“Therefore, the world must double down on supporting Ukraine so that we prevail and safeguard European and global security.”

Kuleba’s tweet, written in English, came after Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Western arms shipments to Ukraine meant Nato was “in essence engaged in war with Russia” and there was “considerable” risk of the conflict escalating.

The warning from the Russian minister must not be underestimated, given the global consequences in the event the devastating threat materializes.

The US wants to see “Russia weakened to the degree that it can’t do the kinds of things that it has done in invading Ukraine,” Austin told reporters after meeting President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s armed forces said they have destroyed an ammunition depot and killed more than 70 Russian soldiers in the southern Kherson region of the country.

Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence said the exact number of dead Russian soldiers was still being specified.

They added that Russia  has continued to enhance its troops in the northeast of the country and continues “partial blocking of the city of Kharkiv” and is “carrying out fire damage to units of our troops and objects of critical infrastructure” in Ukraine’s second largest city.

The ministry said that six enemy attacks were repelled in Donetsk and Luhansk in the last 24 hours, adding that the Ukrainian forces had destroyed four Russian tanks, five artillery systems and thirteen armoured vehicles.

It came as James Heappey, Britain’s armed forces minister, said there is “every chance” that the Ukrainians will see off the Russians, arguing Moscow’s victory in the east of Ukraine is not inevitable.

Germany  has also said it will authorise the deliveries of tanks to Ukraine, as it steps up its  military backing for Kyiv.

The confirmation is due to announced at an international meeting of defence ministers at the US airbase in Ramstein later today, a government source told AFP.

With the political  heat surrounding the Russian Ukraine war getting hotter, Russia’s defence ministry  has claimed that its high-precision missiles destroyed six facilities powering railways used to deliver foreign weapons to Ukrainian forces in the eastern Donbas region.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen says Russia’s “aggression” in Ukraine is a “direct threat” to Europe’s security
