Russian Long Jumper, Dario Klishina, is to compete at the Rio Olympics after her ban from the Olympic games was denounced by the highest court of sports on the eve of her event.
The Russian track and field star, suffered a crushing humiliation when the international Association of Athletics Federation(IAAF) suspended Russian’s only athlete to have been permitted to take part in the Rio games this year.
The rest of the team had a total ban imposed on them amid allegations of a state run doping Scandal that deprived them of showcasing their natural ability and the most coveted international event in the world.
Upheld
Reuters reported today that the court of Arbitration has upheld Klishina’s appeal against the ban.
In a statememt to Reuters, the Court of appeal stated “The parties were informed that the application was upheld and that the athlete remained eligible to compete in the Olympic games in Rio, can said in a statement.
The IAAF had originally ruled that the 25 year old based in the U.S was not involved in the doping Scandal and had been subject to sufficient drug tests outside Russia.
However, the IAAF reversed their decision when a lawyer, Richard Mckaren, presented new Raheem evidence from a World Anti Doping Agency investigation.
But the CAS struck down the ban on the grounds that she met the IAAF’S criteria, despite the information provided by the lawyer.
AUTHENTICITY
This raises questions as to the authenticity of the original allegations, and whether there was a justified reason for the failed squashing of her original suspension.
She will now be in high spirits following the overruling of the old decision.
