A resurfaced blog post written by Meghan’ Markle in 2014 blog post about the royals appears to expose the duchess’s many claims about having next to no knowledge about the royal family before she met Prince Harry in 2016.
The blog revealed that she dreamt of being a ‘royal rebel’ rather than ‘a Cinderella’ as a child – as she reflected on the ‘pomp and circumstance’ and ‘endless conversation’ about the wedding of ‘Princess Kate
The former Suits star’s claim to have known very little about the royal family has always been questionable, and now appears to be exposed as dishonest.
Meghan Markle’s team have in the past addressed claims they consider to be false, and whilst they cannot address every allegation, this is one serious one the duchess needs to put to bed, if she has any explanation for what strongly appears to be a false statement she made openly which questions her credibility to some extent.
The couple said during their bombshell primetime interview with Oprah in 2021 that she didn’t grow up ‘knowing much about the royal family’ – despite one of her childhood best friends claiming that she was ‘fascinated’ by them during her youth.
The statement by Ms Markle not to have known much about the royal family was one of the strange claims made by Meghan Markle, though when presented for broader scrutiny by analysts examining the entire drama surrounding the royal family fall out, some suggested the duke of susssex may have meant she did not have insightful knowledge about the royal institution.
That interpretation has been largely dismissed by other analysts who insist that Meghan Markle’s statement of not knowing much about the royal family is unambiguous, especially as she would have known how it would be perceived.
Meghan’s blog, launched in 2014 named after her favourite Tignanello wine seems to contradicts her claim to have been largely in the dark about the royal family
Recalling her first sip, she wrote: ‘It was an ah-ha moment at its finest. For me it became a “Tig” moment – a moment of getting it.’
Meghan’s longtime friend, Suits director and producer Silver Tree, explained in Harry and Meghan’s Netflix docuseries: ‘When she first was describing [the blog] to me, she was like, “It’s like your best friend telling you all the fun things you wish you knew about in one place.”
Little girls dream of being princesses,’ Meghan wrote in the post, before insisting: ‘I, for one, was all about She-Ra, Princess of Power.
‘For those of you unfamiliar with the ’80s cartoon reference, She-Ra is the twin sister of He-Man and a sword-wielding royal rebel known for her strength.
‘We’re definitely not talking about Cinderella here.’
She continued by noting that many adult women seem to carry on their ‘childhood fantasy’ of becoming a princess – before making reference to the public fascination and intrigue surrounding William and Kate’s 2011 nuptials.
‘Grown women seem to retain this childhood fantasy,’ she wrote. ‘Just look at the pomp and circumstance surrounding the royal wedding and endless conversation about Princess Kate.’
She closed down the site in 2017 before announcing her engagement to Harry, describing it as a ‘passion project’ that ‘evolved into an amazing community of inspiration, support, fun and frivolity’.
Prince Harry echoed her claims to have known nothing about the royal family in his bombshell memoire ”Spare” . He claimed that his wife knew ‘almost nothing’ about the royals, and had never so much as Googled them before the pair met
Prince Harry’s memoir Spare claimed that the Duchess of Sussex went into meeting his relatives unprepared.
In the book, ‘ Harry wrote that Meghan knew ‘almost nothing about his relatives.’
Prince Harry also added that his future wife ‘definitely hadn’t Googled’ anything about the Royals or done any research, prompting many of us to wonder how he felt he could vouch for her so openly just because they are married. The claim is largely considered to be counter intuitive to common reasoning.
He also recalled the moment Meghan met his grandmother and when she mistook Prince Andrew for the Queen’s assistant because he was holding her purse.
He wrote: ‘After a moment Meg asked me something about the Queen’s assistant. I asked who she was talking about.
‘”That man holding the purse. That man who walked her to the door. That wasn’t her assistant? Who was it?”‘
Harry quickly prompted her that it was in fact his uncle and told Meghan: ‘That was her second son. Andrew.’
He wrote: ‘She definitely hadn’t Googled us.’
Prince Harry also explained the circumstances that led to his wife crying- as story Meghan revealed during her interview with Oprah Winfrey, when she said the media had lied that she had made Kate Middleton cry, when it was in fact the other way round. The incident related to his niece, Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress.
Harry said Kate messaged Meghan days before the wedding stating there was a problem with the bridesmaid dresses – specifically, Charlotte’s.
He claims Meghan tried to send Kate to the tailor at the Palace to have it fixed.
According to Harry, Meghan found an hour to chat to Kate, who said Charlotte’s dress was too big for her, and she had cried when she tried it on.
The duke also wrote that it wasn’t the only issue Kate had with the planning of the wedding, mentioning an issue with the page boys, but didn’t go into further detail.
After the discussion, Harry said he returned home to find Meghan sobbing on the floor of the kitchen, overcome with stress and worry.
He added that Kate arrived at the house the next day with a card and apology flowers.
The apology from Kate accompanied with flowers revealed a very sweet side to Ms Middleton which she has been applauded for by this publication in the past.
It has never been revealed exactly why the media lied that Meghan had made Katie cry.
Detailed examination of Ofcom’s report into complaints made against Piers Morgan in 2021 revealed the false claim to have been made by a reporter in The Daily Express, though it has never been revealed which writer made the false claim and why.
The Daily Express was once confronted by this publication, after once being caught publishing erroneous information featuring the views of a psychologist about Prince Harry and Prince William’s strained relationship.
Harry and Meghan have always claimed the media were hostile against them, the lie told by a reporter appearing to be one indication of the claim, unless there is a perfect explanation.
But compelling indications that she lied to the world does not look pretty at all for Meghan Markle. Without putting that right, the question is ‘what else is she lying about’, and why?
Meghan Markle has long been a polarising figure in the Uk, with many strong supporters and strong critics airing their views passionately for or against her.
Sun columnist, Jeremy Clarkson went too far in an article for the paper last Decmber when he expressed a desire to see Markle paraded in the streets naked with people shouting shame on her and throwing excrements at her.
The article led to the highest single complaints to press watchdog Ipso
Last week, IPSO confirmed it was investigating the article, and examining complaints from The Fawcett Society and The Wilde Foundation, which allege clauses in the editors’ code of practice were breached.
The code sets out rules that newspapers and magazine regulated by IPSO have agreed to follow, and members of the public can complain if they believe a clause has been breached, with IPSO ruling on the matter and possibly imposing sanctions or actions.
In a statement, IPSO said: “We are taking forward complaints from two groups, The Fawcett Society and The Wilde Foundation, who said they were affected by breaches of Clause 1 (Accuracy), Clause 3 (Harassment) and Clause 12 (Discrimination) in the article.
