David Copperfield, (pictured)the renowned magician celebrated for his grand illusions and magical feats is in ruins, as he now faces serious allegations of sexual misconduct spanning several decades.
Multiple women have come forward with claims against the 65 year old illusionist, alleging instances of sexual misconduct and inappropriate behaviour that allegedly occurred from the late 1980s to 2014.
Copperfield’s legal team has strongly denied all allegations, labelling them “false and entirely without foundation.”
They include claims that Copperfield drugged women before engaging in sexual activities with them, and that he groped women during live performances could wreck his reputation and end him in jail, if proven to be true.
One woman alleged that Copperfield forced her to touch his buttock while she was 16, with her family present in the audience.
Copperfield’s lawyers are adamant that their client “never, ever acted inappropriately with anyone, let alone anyone underage.”
They assert that Copperfield has been a staunch advocate for women’s rights, even before the rise of the #MeToo movement.
The U.S Guardian’s investigation revealed a pattern of accusations against Copperfield, with over half of the 16 women who spoke out saying they were under 18 at the time of the incidents.
Notably, two other women who had initially agreed to share their stories later requested that their allegations be removed, raising questions about potential financial settlements.
Gloria Allred, a lawyer known for representing victims of powerful men, confirmed she represents one of these women but did not comment on any settlements.
In October 2023, Copperfield announced a partnership with Save the Children for a stunt to make the moon disappear, scheduled for February 2024.
However, the partnership ended in January 2024, one day after Copperfield’s name was mentioned in the unsealed Epstein documents.
Save the Children removed its announcement but did not comment on the reason for ending the partnership. Copperfield’s lawyers said he hopes to resume the collaboration in the future.
