Recent Fasting Regime And Thrumbosis Was Final Catalyst To Death Of Shane Warne

By Hortensia Daniels-

The widely stunned, global reactions to the passing of Shane Warne, the much loved, legendary, Australian Cricketer undermines the ramifications of his full health history.

His recent, fasting regime appeared to be the final catalyst, but only a tip of the iceberg, and yet, there is no firm evidence linking the reportedly massive heart incident to what has been described as ‘ridiculous’, ’nutty’ or ‘extreme ‘ fasting program.

Thrombosis, exacerbated by a lifestyle of smoking and the Covid-19 he suffered, is believed to have played a contributory role to his final fate, ending his life at just 52 years of age.

Thrombosis occurs when blood clots block veins or arteries, and can easily be caused when people with pre-existing conditions are stationary for long flights. Symptoms include pain and swelling in one leg, chest pain, or numbness on one side of the body. Complications of thrombosis can be life-threatening, such as a stroke or heart attack.

Although the autopsy revealed cause of Shane Warne’s death to be Natural Causes’, it was more than that.

Shane Warne contracted the killer disease after the double dose vaccination and survived, with a brief treatment in ICU.  Two pools of blood were found on the carpet of the hotel room, as well as vomit, and three blood stains on a bath towel. The Thai police felt these had to do with the 20 minute, CPR his colleague and friend, Andrew Neophitou performed on him, in a frantic effort to bring Warne back to life. Therefore, no suspicion of foul play.

Death from ‘natural causes’ refer to internal causes factors—like a medical condition or disease, as opposed to external factors, like trauma from an accident. In other words, natural causes could mean anything from Cancer,to heart disease, to Diabetes.

While the fine, personal details of Warne’s health may not be publicly ascertainable there is more than enough out there, to  retrospectively examine and see the tragedy clock which had actually been ticking for the 52 year old cricketing king. The writing was on the wall, but not clear enough for all to see in advance.

A heart breaking story for a well loved and talented sporting hero, Warne appears to have  long been sitting on a bleeping time-bomb without being aware. Nobody else knew enough or was strong enough to hold his hand and steer him away early from his adhering,  ironic suicidal path. Warne might have been one of those who set their mind on something, like a flint, and would not budge.

However, he couldn’t save himself form the irreversible fate that may have saved his life and granted him many more for the world to admire.

He leaves with us an adorable memory that has seen heart weeps and many tell the tales of his glittering career and warm nature. The crash diet of  a 14-day liquid only fasting  which preceded his devastating death sentence was only the last straw. It wasn’t done in secret, neither was it the first occasion it happened.  His friends knew about it, so did his long-time manager, James Erskine. He was also known by his family  to undertake various, lengthy fasting practices, including regular 30-day stints.

Warne  completed the decisive last leg and got on the plane the very next day, to die in the luxurious villa, on the Island resort of Koh Samul, Thailand. He complained of chest pains and saw a doctor before passing on in the hotel room.

Warne was taken by surprise, he  intended that first day of his arrival in Thailand with his friends and manager to end according to plan, so he could go and get a suit made for him. He had arranged for a massage that day. They were then to meet at 5pm and go for a drink, but that was it. It was never to be.

It’s one of the reason every precious waking moment with loved one’s must never be taken forgranted. It also highlights the importance of health preservation. Here today, gone tomorrow, the causes and contributory factors all history and a lesson for the children of the future.

The Air Travel

It’s not known how he fared on the journey from Australia, an average 8hour stretch, sitting most of the time, against odds, such as the risk of thrombosis. This occurs when blood clots block veins or arteries. Symptoms include pain and swelling in one leg, chest pain, or numbness on one side of the body. Complications can be life-threatening.

While air travels are generally safe for all, they may sometimes pose a risk to people with certain health conditions, including some heart concerns. Shane Warne’s complaint of chest pains might have related to the long flight.

It might have had little to do with the specific fasting regime itself, though the cumulative stress factor from previous fasts might have predisposed an already strained heart to increased vulnerability. However, according Professor Garry Jennings, chief medical adviser of the Heart Foundation explained that in certain circumstances, very low calorie diets put extra strain on the heart.

Heart consultant, Dr Anthonio  Martin, from Coventry University, told The Eye Of Media.Com:  ‘The incidence of thrombosis is very common …and going completely without food raises the question about medication, because you need food to take some medicines, not an empty stomach’.

Fasting to lose weight

Warne was very keen to shed his weight quickly, having  famously gained and shed weight several times in the past.

In 2019, the Age and the Sydney Herald reported that Warne had purchased two boxes of tea from the practice of a business, by the name of Traditional Chinese Medicine Australia (TCMA). The business became famous for its Wellbeing 101 diet. It emerged through court documents relating to another costumer, that the diet replaced all meals, with a Chinese herbal concoction, for up to 4 weeks.

The sole Director of TCMA at the time, Dr Shuquan Liu had his medical licence suspended, following the death from a cardiac event of one of his female patients who was undertaking the 101 Wellbeing program. She was found to have a potassium deficiency on admission to hospital. It’s not known exactly how Warne faired with that diet, but he was on it.

In the1970s, Dr Robert Linn, an osteopath, promoted a very low calorie liquid diet which became a sensation among American celebrities and the public and was later linked to the death of 17 healthy people who all suffered disruptions of the heart rhythm.

Shane Warne’s name has reverberated across the world for ‘extreme’ health fasting, having determined to regain his best fit. Ten days into his fasting, he had twittered, ‘Operation shred has started…’ The goal for his resolute heart was to get back to his old shape by July this year, but very sadly, that was never to be. His physical heart was fatally sick.

Intermittent fasting

Modern, very low calorie diets are designed to offer enough nutrition, to avoid risk. Intermittent fasting involves not consuming anything besides water, for 12-16 hours in a day. Some people undergo extended time, between dinner and breakfast the next morning. Some choose to bypass dinner completely and others may choose one full day each week.

Research shows Intermittent fasting to have a broad range of health benefits, including weight loss, increased energy, detoxification of the body system, reducing oxidative stress, stabilising metabolism and reducing diseases, even reversing type 2 diabetes.

However, it can also be detrimental when overdone.  Consultant Dr Abraham Ayotunde, a consultant at Southend Hospital said: ”The risks of not eating for days due to low blood sugar (hypoglaumic) crisis which can kill quickly was likely contributed by thrombosis in the leg arising from the long trip from Thailand to Australia.

People are not advised to undertake journeys of longer than four hours within 4 weeks of surgery . The background experience of Covid-19 would have been very unhelpful and posed a negative contributory factor.

Smoking

The fact  Warne’s manager has been quoted to say that Warne smoked ‘all his life’ would also likely have been a contributing factor to his untimely death. It has been said also that he smoked during his entire 22year Cricket career, and didn’t fail to perform well, being the Cricket genius that he proved himself to be. Warne was rumoured to smoke 50 cigarettes a day. He once joked that he tried smoking 100 a day, to cure Covid.

Warne was once caught out over a New Year’s resolution worth $80, 000, to quit cigarettes, after he was seen smoking in a Caribbean bar. There were shots of him smoking in the street. He had a pledge with Nicorette, chewing gum manufacturer, Upjohn and Pharmacia, to renounce smoking for four months, for a sum of $200,000. He was seen puffing just five days before the end of the sponsorship.

Research is replete with findings on the effects tobacco smoking has on the body. It increases the heart rate, tightens major arteries and can cause an irregular heart rythm, all causing the heart to work harder. Smoking raises the blood pressure and increases the risk of stroke.

Smoking and asthma are also a dangerous liaison. If you have asthma, smoking is especially risky to the lungs

Obesity/Overweight

Obesity is the state of being grossly fat or overweight. The later may better describe Warne’s body size. He perceived himself as being at least, overweight and he didn’t want it.

While Smoking and obesity are widely known public health challenges with the prevalence of both increasing globally. Among smokers, the risk of obesity increases with the amount smoked and former heavy smoker were more likely to be obese than former light smokers.

New research indicates heavy smokers are more likely to become pot-bellied. There is a common fear among smokers they will pile on pounds if they quit the habit.

Asthma

According to new research, active asthma can double the risk of cardiovascular event like a heart attack, stroke or related conditions, and taking daily medication for asthma can increase the risk of a cardiovascular event by 60 %, over a 10year period. The use of an inhaler can rescue or endanger.

Persistent asthma is linked to increased heart rythm disorder, called atrial fibrillation

According to HealthDay reporter, Steven Reinberg, November 2014, research suggests that asthma raises the risk of heart attack.

Smoking, Asthma and Heart

Smoking increases the risk of cancer, respiratory and cardiovascular diseases and is the leading preventable cause of death in developed countries.

Warne’s heart could have been ailing for a long time. It’s unclear for how long he had also been struggling with asthma. His relationship with tobacco was well documented.

While Warne might not have been categorised as being obese, he might have been overweight. This was what he was battling. He was a repository

Covid-19

Shane Warne contracted the killer disease after the double dose vaccination and survived, with a brief treatment in ICU. Facts and fiction about the vaccine split the world and communities into two, and so, while this publication is neutral in its opinion as to the fierce and divergent views trolling social media, in relation to social media trolls on Warne’s death, it’s fair to include the possible influence, however remotely.

Death from Natural Causes

Autopsy revealed cause of Shane Warne’s death to be Natural Causes’.

Two pools of blood were found on the carpet of the hotel room, as well as vomit, and three blood stains on a bath towel.
