A protest has got out of hand after American police shot and killed 43 year old Keith Lamont Scott in North Carolina. Anger was heightened by the fact the dead.man was.disabled.

Officers had arrived at a complex to arrest somebody else,  but ended up killing the man whom  witnesses say was holding a book. Scott was shot four times.

Officers claimed he posed an imminent threat after producing a gun -a narrative claimed to be fictitious. The dead man’s brother says Scott was standing in the same spot where he always stood to pick up his son.

Protesters clashed with police, with up to 12 officers injured and several protesters arrested. The daughter of the dead man lamented the time it took medical assistance to be provided to her father, considering the proximity of a medical center to the location of the shooting.

American police are notorious for reckless killings, often skipping the option of.maiming the suspect. Buildings and shops were looted by protesters, causing police to use tear gas on the crowd,  as they dispersed.

The incident marks another tragedy in the heavy handling of unscrupulous police in America.  The need for redressed from the  American government has been a long time waiting.
