Prince Harry dropped the prince title he is known by at one of his final engagements in Edinburgh as a senior member of the royal family.
Harry’s request comes after it was revealed that he and Meghan would not be using the term Royal after they officially quit royal duties to become financially independent and live in North America. He now wants to be referred to as Harry, Duke of Sussex
Introducing him at the conference promoting sustainable tourism, host former Labour adviser and broadcaster Ayesha Hazarika told delegates: “He’s made it clear that we are all just to call him Harry.
“So ladies and gentlemen, please give a big, warm, Scottish welcome to Harry.'”
Harry told the Travalyst event that the industry in Scotland was at the forefront of making the sector greener, saying it could set an example for the rest of the UK and world.
He said: “We want to hear truths and perspectives from across the industry. We don’t need to reinvent the wheel, a lot of great work has already been done.
“But our research again shows that many of these endeavours have failed to reach the conscientiousness of consumers.
“We have to work together… to scale up the good practices already being used around the world. Scotland is a great example of what we mean.
“Scotland is one of the fastest growing tourism destinations worldwide and it’s at the forefront of a more sustainable approach, which is why your insight into these issues is so incredibly valuable.”
The comment comes after it was revealed Harry and Meghan would not be using the term Royal after they quit the Firm to become financially independent and live in North America.
Along with wife Meghan Markle, Harry will be retiring from royal life at the end of March.
On Friday, he is due to visit the studios at Abbey Road in north London, where the Beatles recorded 11 of their 13 albums, to meet the singer Jon Bon Jovi and the Invictus Games Choir, who are recording a single for charity.
Harry has spoken of his sadness at being forced to give up his royal duties, saying there was no other option if he and Meghan were to seek an independent future away from stifling media intrusion.
They couple said they no longer plan to launch their own foundation and have abandoned plans to trademark Sussex Royal, as per the Queen’s request.
