Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have “regrets” over the unfortunate timing of their interview with Oprah Winfrey, but say they had no control over when it was aired.
Their interview was aired while Prince Philip was in hospital and Harry’s grandfather has since passed away. They dropped several bombshells, including the experience of mental health issues suffered by Meghan Markle, and the fact she was not provided any professional assistance by the palace.
The couple also made allegations of racism, specifically in relation to concerns raised as to how dark their then unborn child, Archie could be. Other claims included allegations that their son would not be entitled to ever becoming a prince, racism again being presented as the presumed reason for the change of policy.
However, the view that Archie would never become a prince has since been debunked by critics who have pointed out that the great grandchildren of the queen are not entitled to a title. It remains unclear why they held the mistaken view
A source close to the couple told Heat Magazine that the interview was something they felt they needed to do.
Harry had not seen the Duke of Edinburgh in over a year following his decision to quit the Royal Family and his life in the UK.
However, the couple have some solace due to the fact that in the interview, they spoke highly of the late prince with whom they had a close bond.
The source close to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex told how the married couple “wish things could have been different”.
The source also revealed that the couple hoped their relationship with Charles, William and Kate will be better “one day”.
They said: “They needed to have their say, and they couldn’t see any other way to do it.
The source added that Harry was “upset” that Philip never got to know Archie and won’t meet his great granddaughter.
However, he was glad that he had been able to keep in contact and previously revealed to James Corden that they would chat over Zoom calls.
Prince Harry arrived in the UK in preparation for the funeral, and has already spoken with his brother, Prince William.
Meghan Markle was unable to attend the funeral due to medical advice in relation to the pregnancy of their second child.
