Prime Minister Boris Johnson And Fiancee’s Joy At New Baby Boy

Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his fiancee Carrie Symonds have announced the birth of their baby son.

Downing Street’s spokesperson said: The couple are “thrilled” and both mother and baby are “doing very well” following the birth at a London hospital on Wednesday morning. The prime minister  is said to have been present throughout the birth at an NHS hospital in London.  His father Stanley said he was “absolutely delighted” and “thrilled” by the birth of his grandson.

The birth of the prime minister’s son comes just two days after Mr Johnson returned to work on Monday, following a battle with coronavirus . His fiancee Ms Symonds was also also  experienced worrying symptoms of the virus.  Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab sent his warm wishes to the prime minister. He said:

“I really hope that this brings them incredible relief and joy.” But his place was taken Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, who has been deputising for him. Mr Raab said “I’m sure the whole House will want to join with me in sending congratulations and our very best wishes to them.” It is not known whether Johnson  will take time off in paternity leave as  his  hands are expected to be full with the current coronavirus crisis. He could decide to go for the break.

The new arrival is the third baby born to a serving prime minister in recent history.Mr Cameron tweeted his “heartfelt congratulations” to Mr Johnson and Ms Symonds, adding: “Sam and I are thrilled for you both! Sorry we didn’t leave the cot – but the climbing frame should still be in the garden!”

Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon tweeted: “Some good news – sending congratulations to Carrie and the PM. And wishing health and happiness to the wee one.” Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle congratulated Mr Johnson and Ms Symonds “on behalf of everyone in the House of Commons,” adding: “Such happy news amid so much uncertainty – 2020 is certainly a year they will never forget.”
