Parents have been banned from using their mobile phones at a Middleborough primary school.
St.Joseph’s primary school in the Longsland area of the town, has taken the step to install signs about the ban, in a bid to encourage parents to engage with their children education after school.
Staff at the school told the eye of media.com that too often parents spend too much time on their mobile phones that they fail to spend quality time speaking with their children about their education.
” Greet your CHILD with a SMILE, NOT A MOBILE” ,the notice reads.
“When parents are on their mobile phones whilst picking up their child, it sends the message to the child that the phone call us more important than the child””, a spokesperson for the school told the eye of media.com. She added:
“The parent may be engaged by the person on he phone for too long, leaving the child feeling undervalued for that moment .
MINDSET
By the time the parent comes off the phone, their mindset will be in compensating for the time lost by bonding with the child, and leaving out the important issue of their education.
“It encourages and emphasises the importance of speaking and listening , which is good, and stimulates healthy discussion”
Middleborough primary school is a good primary school doing its best to give the children quality education and boost their communication skills.
Parents appear to have so far responded well to the mobile ban, and appear to appreciate its purpose , according to the spokeswoman.
” The feedback we have had so far is positive, so we believe parents appreciate the values we are trying to instill in our children and the role parents play in their lives”, she said.
