Primark has announced closure of all 189 of its UK stores tonight amid the coronavirus outbreak.Owners of the retail giant -Associated British Foods Plc- announced store closures from Sunday night as it cancelled all new orders from suppliers in the face of falling demand.
The fashion retailer has cancelled all new clothing orders from suppliers such as factories in India and Bangladesh but will continue to honour orders already shipped or delivered to Primark warehouses or stores. Primark boss Paul Marchant said it faces “unprecedented, and frankly unimaginable times”.Other High Street retailers, such as John Lewis and Timpson, have already announced closures amid the pandemic.
A Primark spokesperson said: “With the health and welfare of our employees and customers front of mind, we have made the decision to close our stores in the UK, until further notice. We thank all our employees, customers, suppliers and partners for their continued support.” British music retailer HMV announced it would close its stores temporarily from Sunday after
