By Aaron Miller-

President  Biden  promised to lead by the power of his example, as he spoke against those who lead by the power of their position.

As Joe Biden was sworn in as the new president of the United States Of America,  he cut a very presidential and dignified figure.  The new president spoke passionately about the need for unity, peaceful dissent and  ‘democracy has prevailed’ .

‘The will of the people.  ”There are truths and there are lies. Lies told for profit”, he said.

He added: ‘We’ve learned again that democracy’s precious, democracy’s fragile. At this hour, my friends, democracy has prevailed.’

Biden paid tribute to the peaceful transfer of power and the resilience of American democracy. His powerful speech touched on many aspects of  the qualities that makes America are great country, also acknowledging the many challenges it faces.

‘This is America’s day. This is democracy’s day – a day of history and hope, of renewal and resolve, for crucible for the ages America has tested anew and America has risen to the challenge. Today we celebrate not a candidate, but a cause, the cause of democracy,’ he said.

Biden thanked his predecessors of both parties for being at his swearing-in. Former Presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush attended – making Trump’s absence even more notable. Trump skipped the event, flying to Mar-a-Lago after organizing his own pep rally send off, telling supporters and family members ‘Have a good life, we will see you soon.

‘I thank my predecessors of both parties for their presence here today. I thank them from the bottom of my heart,’ Biden said, adding he had spoken to former President Jimmy Carter on the phone the night before. Carter did not attend out of safety reasons because of the COVID pandemic.

Referring to the attack that occurred on the Capitol two weeks ago, when a pro-Trump mob interrupted the certification of his victory, he said:

‘Now on this hallowed ground where just a few days ago violence sought to shake the capital’s very foundation. We come together under one nation, under god, indivisible, to transfer the peaceful power as we have for two centuries,’ he said.

Biden’s powerful  inaugural remarks followed the swearing in of history-making Vice President Kamala Harris.

Biden expressed his oath to ‘preserve, protect and defend’ the Constitution – starting his tenure amid a pandemic and putting an end to a tumultuous four-year term by President Trump.

President Biden said his whole soul is committed to the endeavour of building., a she urged Americans to see each other as neighbours not adversaries. Without unity there can be no progress or change.
The U.S president said he has never

He added that ”we must reject the possibility that facts are manipulated or even manufactured. He spoke of ” the right to dissent peaceably. ”I pledge this to you, I will be a president for all Americans. I will fight as hard for those who did not support me as in those who did”.

Former President Donald Trump, who was initially believed to have been planning a trip to Scotland for January 18 , yesterday, instead left for his Florida resort, Mar-a-Lago, before Biden was sworn in. The outgoing president held a farewell event at Joint Base Andrews before taking his final trip on Air Force One. Trump told the gathered crowd, “Have a good life. We’ll see you soon.”
