Amanda Gorman Shines In Delivery Of Special Poem At Presidential Inauguration

Amanda Gorman shined in her performance at the presidential inauguration, as she called for “unity and togetherness” in her self-penned poem.

The writer and performer- the country’s first national youth poet laureate in 2017- followed in the footsteps of such famous names as Robert Frost and Maya Angelou.

The 22-year-old delivered  an impressive show of talent through her work,  ‘The Hill We Climb’ to both the dignitaries present in Washington DC and a watching global audience of billions.

Her speech, flow and eloquence blew her global audience away.

Gorman danced in celebration  last month, when she first knew she had been selected by Joe Biden to feature  her talent as part of the inauguration of the proceedings.

The 22-year-old stood at the podium in a canary yellow coat after stunning performances by Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, and Garth Brooks as she addressed the crowd.

When day comes, we ask ourselves where can we find light in this never-ending shade?” her inspiring  poem began.

In reference to the storming of the Capitol earlier this month, she said

“We’ve seen a force that would shatter our nation rather than share it, would destroy our country if it meant delaying democracy,” she declared.

“And this effort very nearly succeeded. But while democracy can be periodically delayed, it can never be permanently defeated.”

“Being American is more than a pride we inherit,” she proclaimed. “It’s the past we step into and how we repair it. We’ve seen a force that would shatter our nation rather than share it…would destroy our country if it meant delaying our democracy. And this effort very nearly succeeded.”

Gorman’s poignant words for the future was pitch perfect, as she addressed the Capitol riots earlier this month. “One thing is certain,” she said, “if we merge mercy with might and might with rights, then love becomes our legacy…in change, our children’s birthright”

The youngster  incorporated Biblical scripture and also times  reflected the oratory of John F Kennedy and the Rev Martin Luther King Jr, after extensive research  that included  the study of particular tweets that resonated with her spirit

Dreamer

Amanda Gorman  who apart from being a writer and poet, describes herself as a dreamer, and he says who plans to run for president in 2036.

As a child she battled a speech impediment, yet showed no signs of any hindrance to her speech, as she displayed an excellence that has now earned her international acclaim.

Her yellow coat and red headband are both by Prada, and  Oprah Winfrey sent her the jewellery

Prior to her speech, she told CBS News this morning prior to her speech. “It’s amazing…Especially at my age,” she said. “No one really gets to say, ‘At 22, I am the inaugural poet. “And then on the Wednesday in which we saw the insurrection at the Capitol, that was the day that the poem really came to life. And I really put pedal to the metal.

”I wanted it to be a message of hope and unity. And I think that Wednesday for me really just underscored how much that was needed. But to not turn a blind eye to the cracks that really need to be filled.”

“When day comes, we ask ourselves where can we find light in this never-ending shade?” her five-minute poem began.

Describing herself as “a skinny black girl descended from slaves and raised by a single mother [who] can dream of becoming president, only to find her self reciting for one”.

“I really wanted to use my words to be a point of unity and collaboration and togetherness,” Gorman told the BBC World Service’s Newshour programme before the ceremony.

“I think it’s about a new chapter in the United States, about the future, and doing that through the elegance and beauty of words.”
