Police Frightened Victim With Savile’s Powerful Barristers

By Sammie Jones-

Police investigating allegations of sexual assault by Jimmy Savile threatened the victim with the prospect of facing Savile’s Barrister in court.

The revelation is part of the long report released by the Independent police commissions report. A key aspect of the report highlights police efforts to frighten the victim with the wealth and power of Jimmy Savile and his ”best lawyers in the country”

One of the victims described as Mrs. A expressed feeling awful and shattered, and that two police officers had attempted to ”frighten her off” from pursuing her allegations. She said she felt
embarrassed talking to men about such personal matters and would have
provided a lot more detail to a woman.

The female victim said the police officer, known as ‘Officer A’ highlighted that Jimmy Savile was a very powerful man, that Mrs. A would have to go to the High Court in London. The officer added that Savile would have
“the best lawyers in the country” and that they would make “mincemeat” out of Mrs. A. This frightened her.

A man present with the female victim during her interview with police was described as mr.B. He recalled hearing the police tell the female victim words to the effect of “beware as he is a very rich man and it will probably go to the High Court.”
Mr B felt the comments were meant as a warning, which again had the
effect of putting Mrs A off pursuing her allegation.

DEGRADED

He said they felt degraded and that they had no chance of pursuing the allegation, according to the report. He also said the visit by Officer A and Officer B had the impact of them taking “a big nose dive”. Prior to the visit by police, the pair said they were keen and excited to be
getting somewhere after all the time that had passed since the assault,
but after the visit, they felt deflated.

FRIGHTENING

At almost every stage of the investigation, police were frightening and intimidating victims of Jimmy Savile, just because he was a celebrity. However, he was one of the worst perverts and sexual abusers in modern times. The report showed repeated instances of police discouraging victims from pursuing allegations they had already reported, so much that some of the victims were having a second thought about going through with it. None of them would have wanted to be humiliated by highly paid Barristers only interested in their pay cheques.
