Police chiefs have promised to step up patrols after four stabbings and a shooting in Birmingham within the short space of 24 hours.
West Midlands Police, said numbers of officers on the beat had been increased after the surge in violent crime, which saw one man fatally stabbed in Kingshurst on Tuesday evening.
The 28-year-old unnamed man died at Heartlands Hospital, after being stabbed in the chest on Hadfield Way at around 7.40pm.
Following that stabbing, were three further stabbings on Wednesday, including that of a 16-year-old boy at the NEC at 12.20pm, and the stabbing of a man in his 30s on Long Nuke Road in Northfield at 3pm. There was one more stabbing in the early hours in Longley Walk, Chelmsley Wood. The City of Birmingham is currently stricken with brutal violence and gang rivalry, putting the lives of many at risk.
KNIVES
The eye of media.com heard that there are a number of teenagers and young adults carrying big sharp knives ot of concern for their safety. One anonymous source told us, ”there is a lot concern about the violence here. Some of it has its roots in gang violence, but with the fear that has caused, many ordinary people are now carrying knives”T
There are many G.C.S.E and A level students carrying knives in their bags, to protect themselves, Because you can et stabbed here, just ny talking to somebody who is the target of a gang meber or rival. And the more people are carrying knives, the more likely those with knives act bragadociously when out and drunk, increasing the chances of more stabbings than usual”
Today, Chief Inspector Chris Mallet reassured the public that dozens of police officers were working ‘behind the scenes’ to investigate the recent spate of violent crimes.
He said: “During a period of just over 24 hours this week there were four stabbings in Birmingham which resulted in some serious injuries and one man losing his life – as well as a shooting, which thankfully resulted in only minor injuries.
“This all comes on the back of a number of other knife attacks across the West Midlands since the start of the month.
“I know the community is worried and I completely understand why, because one gun or knife-related crime is one too many.
“No amount of police work can fully repair the damage caused to the victims, families and communities that are affected whenever a knife is pulled or a shot is fired.”
The Chief Inspector confirmed that the force had increased local patrols in the affected areas and urged anyone with concerns to talk to their local police team.
