PIERS Morgan has called for a 99-year-old veteran who raised over £4 million to help doctors and nurses on the frontline in the fight against Covid-19 to be knighted.
The television presenter who is better known for his confrontational scrutiny of guests on his Good Morning Britain television show was in complimentary spirits today when he showered the 99 year old with gesture on social media. Captain Tom Moore raised £5 million for Britain’s excellent Nhs , after initially targeting £1,000. The veteran set up a Just Giving fundraising page, titled: “Captain Tom Moore’s 100th Birthday Walk for the NHS.”
More than a quarter of million people have donated and at one point more than 90,000 were on his page at the same time. Mr.Moore’s aim was to complete it before he turns 100 on 30 April – but he is currently on track to finish by Thursday.
Captain Moore’s Twitter account posted on Wednesday: “5 MILLION! Huge thank you to .@JustGiving who had over 90,000 people on Tom’s page at one time, and had to try ensure that the site didn’t crash. WOW – just speechless.”
Funds from the campaign will be spent on much needed items, such as well-being packs for NHS staff, rest and recuperation rooms and electronic devices for patients to keep in touch with their loved ones.
On his fundraising page, he explained that Captain Moore is aiming to walk a hundred lengths of his back garden, which is 25m in length, before he hits 100 years old at the end of the month.

Morgan, who publicly donated £10,000 to Captain Moore’s efforts on Monday, called for Captain Moore to be made a Sir. He tweeted: “I’d like to see the magnificently inspiring Captain Moore be knighted for his services to his country in World War Two and now to the NHS. Who’s with me?
