Former England Ace, Paul Gascoigne, has strangely revealed he found former Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher sexually arousing, and couldn’t contain himself.
Gascoigne made the inappropriate claim during finding her so sexually arousing that he has to disappear to the loo. His comments are often taking with a pinch of salt, as an evening with Gazza likened more unto comedy where his audience can just sit and have a loud laugh at the many unpredictable things that come out of his mouth.
The then PM invited the players to No 10 after they reached the semi-finals of the World Cup, losing on penalties to West Germany in 1990.
The team’s visit to Downing Street came following an inspiring summer for England fans at the end of a decade repeatedly blemished by hooliganism – and an era in which Mrs Thatcher had often been critical of football and its authorities.
English clubs had been banned from playing in European competitions, following Liverpool fans’ involvement in the Heysel Stadium disaster that cost 39 lives, and the iron lady had wanted to introduce an ID card system that would have meant only registered fans could attend matches. England manager, Bobby Robson, at the time opposed the plans.
The draft speaking notes show she wanted to congratulate the team for winning the Fifa Fair Play Trophy and note the players were often first to “stretch out the hand of friendship to the opposing team player”.
According to the draft speech, she said: “We all noticed too that when an England player was brought down, unlike other teams, our players did not immediately seek the Oscar for best actor for impersonating the death scene from Richard III.
“You got on calmly with the game and always accepted the referee’s decisions without demur.”
who also signed up for Scared of the Dark when he was told Danny Dyer was involved – but didn’t realise he was the presenter rather than a fellow contestant.
The former football ace, 55, also spoke his near-death experiences on the first episode of his new show Scared Of The Dark-stating that he has had more lives than a cat, having apparently ”died a couple of times in his life”.
“He didn’t know I was the host,” Dyer laughed. “He was like, ‘Ah, f**king hell, I don’t know if I want to do it now
.’ You think he’s not going to last a half hour, but let me tell you something now, he’s got an amazing journey in there.”
Talking on the reality show, which airs April 16, the former sportsman, also known as Gazza, recalled being ‘put in a coma for 18 days’.
Hosted by Danny Dyer, Paul will join stars such as Chris Eubank and Max George in a live-in bunker to find out whether they are really scared of the dark.
During the experiment the stars will undertake challenges and If they fail, they lose their privileges, and life is made even harder.
Those who win will get treats and time in the light and if at any time they feel too terrified and can’t continue, they can stop the challenge or leave the show by saying ‘I’M SCARED OF THE DARK’. For those strong enough to endure 180 hours in the dark, a peer-to-peer vote will determine the winner.
It comes after Paul said he concurred his two biggest fears during his time on the new show.
Speaking to hosts Richard Madeley and Ranvir Singh on Good Morning Britain last month, Paul admitted he’s ‘claustrophobic and scared of the dark’.
‘I’m claustrophobic and scared of the dark but I’ve concorded them now. It was a bunch of great guys.’
The celebs are tested to their limits with the psychological pressures of light deprivation, while they’re put through terrifying challenges
He continued: ‘People keep saying, “You’ve got more lives than a cat”. That’s because I have.
‘I’ve had near death experience, 36 operations, I’ve died a couple of times and they’ve put me in a coma for 18 days.’
Gazza, whose battle with alcohol is well documented, has been admitted to hospital numerous times and has been open about health woes.
In 2013, it was revealed that the sportsman had slipped into a three-day coma while receiving treatment at a US clinic for alcohol addiction.
At the time following the ordeal, he admitted: ‘I’ve come through that – death. I was dead.’
And while he may be stronger because of it, there are still a few fears on Paul’s radar – including heights and claustrophobia.
The new show will see eight stars cooped up together in a bunker for eight days in the pitch dark, taking on a series of challenges.
However, Gazza is ready for the challenge, noting that he’s battled worse in his time, he shared: ‘I’m not scared of anything, because of what I’ve been through in my life.’
He added: “When you’ve put your arm around Maggie Thatcher and you’ve kissed Princess Diana…“I’m a Geordie. I don’t give a s***.
“And I was at Wembley not long ago and Prince William was there and I just went over, climbed a couple of seats at Wembley and kissed him.”
The former England star highlighted his many phobias including snakes, heights and flying but believes he’s mentally strong enough to get through this ordeal. “People keep saying, ‘You’ve got more lives than a cat.’
“That’s because I have. I’ve had near-death experiences, I’ve had 36 operations, I’ve died a couple of times, and they’ve put me in a coma for 18 days. So I’ve come through all that, so hopefully, this’ll be a little bit easier.…”
He expressed plans to exercise to pass the time. “I’ll probably work out in the dark,
I’ll do some sit-ups and some squats and stuff like that.” And if that doesn’t work, he’s got one other plan up his sleeve. “I might spend 24/7 on the toilet. At least you know where you are.”
Even though it’s pitch black, he’s still keen to impress the ladies.
“Obviously, there must be girls going in there, so I don’t want to be embarrassing myself in front of girls. I want to be a macho man.”
Gazza isn’t scared of walking in on people on the toilet in the dark, admitting: “I don’t give a s**t, when you’ve put your arm around Maggie Thatcher and you’ve kissed Princess Diana…
“I was at Wembley not long ago and Prince William was there, and I just went over, climbed a couple of seats at Wembley and kissed him. He went, ‘Hi, Gazza’ and I gave him a kiss and just went back to my seat.”
