Paris Jackson has joined a number of Americans in expressing her disgust at the killing of 22- year old George Floyd – shot dead by Minneapolis Police , despite being unarmed.
Jackson, daughter of the late Michael Jackson, went on fire against racism and called for an end to it.
In a recent post on her social media, the 22-year-old model lamented the current state of the world, as she vented her anger against racist conduct in the U.S.
Expressing her heart break, she stated:“I’m heartbroken over yet another innocent life taken for no reason. from what I’ve gathered this was a good man, a man of peace. I am not, however, shocked. Which infuriates me.
“This is a shocking incident, and yet it’s happened so many times and still no change? How many more George Floyds? How many more Trayvon Martins?
She also criticised witnesses who recorded his last moments: “What is also not okay, is people reposting the videos… spread the story, not the trauma porn. It shouldn’t take videos like this to make people do something about it. This has been happening for too long.
It’s disrespectful to exploit this good man’s last moments. Especially because most people will repost the video and then forget about it until another similar crime takes place. Enough. Fxxxxxx do something about it.”
The re-posting of the video was to spread the news, given the shocking footage in a reckless killing which has for years become characteristic of American brutality. Yet, the sharing of such footage can also be offensive.
The 46-year-old George Floyd died on Monday in Minneapolis, Minnesota, after police officer Derek Chauvin was filmed kneeling on the handcuffed man’s neck for at least five minutes.
Chauvin was arresting Floyd for allegedly using a counterfeit $20 note in a shop. Cops said he had been unco-operative and resisted arrest
America has seen too many killings of unarmed black men by police men, and it appears this officer was excessive in the mechanism he chose to restrain Mr. Floyd.
State laws require death certificates to be be filed with local registrars, but the certificates do not systematically document whether a killing was legally justified nor whether a law enforcement officer was involved
The expression of Jackson’s anger coincided with a separate complaint against a couple in Hull, East York, UK . The couple were ordered by police to remove a scarecrow designed in the form of Michael Jackson which they erected in their front garden om Thursday.
Following allegations of racism, it had to be brought down. The creator of the image, Stephen, created Jacko’s face using a black sack and black balaclava and added a black curly wig.
He then dressed the scarecrow in a red PVC suit he had worn to a Halloween Party years ago.
It appeared to be a joke with no racist connotation, but once it was perceived to be offensive, it had to be removed.
