Ofcom are to investigate a BBC rape drama, after a rape scene shown by Apple Tree Yard.
The drama starring Ben chaplin, featured a 36 second clip in which Dr. Yvonne Car Michael played by Emily Watson was raped on a sofa. The clip has upset many viewers who took to social media to complain bitterly.
One of our readers contacted the eye of media.com asking for the programme to be slammed for its irresponsible feature. And the UK Sun newspaper reported on the fury today.
The BBC defended the action by stating it had shown a warning at the start of the programme and have an action line number for viewers affected.
However, such defence is weak and unacceptable. The BBC should know better than to feature rape scenes which could only excite and inspire misfits with a high propensity to rape.
Rape is a very serious offence that should be never be taken lightly . Displaying a warning at the beginning of a programme featuring rape is not good enough. It is an assault on women that should not be tolerated. What were the writer, produced a and directors of this drama thinking?
Writers must be more responsible and show high moral standards otherwise the public have no way of knowing if the writers in qusstion are re- enacting a scene from their own past. It’s totally out of order.!
The eye of media.com has contacted the programme for a more detailed explanation , and a more comprehensive complaint will be written to the BBC. It is a shameful writers error that never should have been made.
