NUJ Announces Call For Applications For Editor Of Magazine

National Union of Journalists (NUJ) has announced an open call for applications for the position of editor of The Journalist, its bi-monthly magazine tailored for union members.

The role, subject to election by the union membership every five years, has been held by Christine Buckley, former industrial editor of The Times, since 2009.

With Christine’s current five-year term set to expire this year, the union is now inviting prospective candidates to step forward.

Christine, whose illustrious career began in local newspapers such as the Bedfordshire Express, Windsor Observer, and Slough and Windsor Express, has confirmed her intention to seek re-election for a fourth term.

Speaking about the election process, she remarked, “There’s an election every five years. I will be standing again but as always it’s up to the membership.”

The editorship of The Journalist, a part-time position, is available either as a two-day-a-week contract of employment or as a freelance contract.

The role is based at the NUJ’s head office in London, or alternatively, at the union’s offices in Glasgow or Dublin.

Published six times a year, The Journalist serves as a vital resource for members, offering comprehensive news and features about their respective industries and the union’s activities.

Prospective candidates interested in applying for the editorship of The Journalist are encouraged to submit their completed application forms by noon on Monday, 24 June. Application forms should be emailed to [email protected].
