Nottingham Pensioner Of 70 Remanded In Custody Over Dangerous Explosives

A Nottingham pensioner who is facing five counts of having explosives which could endanger life has had his case adjourned.

John Allen, 70, did not attend the hearing at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court and was remanded in custody. The case will return to court on Tuesday, January 28, when a bail application may be made by Chris Saunders, defending.

The five explosives charges are dated between November 1 and December 14 at Allen’s home in Waterloo Road, the Arboretum . property. Two refer to the chemical chlorate, one to nitrocellulose while the other two are listed as “unknown. These allegations are brought under the 1883 Explosives Act and refer to HMEs – “home made explosives”.

Allen is also accused of having a stun gun and pepper spray at the flat, as well as possession of cannabis. Daniel Pietryka, prosecuting, represented the Crown Prosecution Service. At the next hearing, Allen is likely to appear via a video link.
