NOTTING HILL CARNIVAL TO FACE ROAD AND TRAIN DISRUPTION AMIDST A COMPLETE WASHOUT

BY ERIC KING

The last bank holiday weekend of the summer is expected to bring an extra 14 million cars on the road – and rain is forecast to hit many parts of the country.

As we approach the Notting hill Carnival to mark the final bank holiday for this year’s summer, there is some bad news to go with the biggest London summer street party. Every year an extra 15 million people gather to boogie and catch up with faces not seen for a while, but this year, but this year forecasters warn of a total wash out has already dulled the biggest annual event in the capital.

Road and train networks will face extreme disruption because of dismal weather conditions as well as engineering works on some lines. Revellers who will attend the annual event with their kids should brace themselves for a wet disappointing day throughout the event with those driving into Notting Hill facing annoying traffic on top of the naughty relentless rainy weather that will accompany this. Only a fool will be out without their umbrella, though the advice for anyone who does not have to go on Sunday is this: just stay at home!
Monday is also predicted to be wet, but drier than Sunday with some hope of forecasters getting it slightly wrong. Wrong predictions for the Monday Carnival are not new, though the predictions are usually right. The safest option really is to book a holiday out of the country if you have the money to pay the high costs for last minute bookings, though for those who already planned a holiday abroad, the good news is you might not really miss anything at Notting hill this year.
There will always be some die hard carnival fans who will make their way down regardless, but the advise is not to wear your best shoes. They will get messy and dirty, and probably tramped upon! Food and drinks will typically be at least 3 times the usual price, but partying and good music will continue until 7pm when the curfew will kick in. The only real fun might be at the after parties, but revellers can at least keep their fingers cross that the forecasters get it wrong for Monday.
