Up to 200 people are feared dead in North Korea after underground tunnels at a nuclear test site collapsed. The site believed to be unstable, crushed 100 people in the initial cave in, as the site gave way on top of rescuers.
The collapse at the Punggye-ri test site on Oct. 10 occurred while people were doing construction on the underground tunnel, Japan’s Asahi TV reported. The station attributed the cause of the damage to the nuclear test conducted by North Korea last September 3rd.
Private concerns about the site being vulnerable to s sudden collapse since the nuclear blast had been expressed. North Korea said it detonated a hydrogen bomb, calling it a “perfect success.” It was the country’s most powerful bomb tested to date, believed to be 10 times more powerful than the nuclear bomb that was dropped over Hiroshima at the end of World War II.
The test triggered a 6.3-magnitude earthquake on that occasion, igniting a series of tremors and multiple tremors in the area since then. A collapse chimney crater was also seen on Mount Mantap, believed to have been caused by the underground tests.
“significant cracking” and “irreversible strain” was also said to have been on the land. on the land due to the nuclear test.
The revelations on Tuesday come as North Korea launched another verbal attack on President Trump and the United States, saying “the Trump group’s vicious vituperation against the DPRK is an expression of their frustration, fear and horror,” according to a statement released by state-run Korean Central News Agency. The day before, the Hermit Kingdom blamed Trump’s “extreme, direct and long threats” for driving them to obtain “complete nuclear deterrence.”
“The U.S. has to ponder over the possible consequences,” the statement said. The war of words has been a never ending exchange, with both sides provoking each other, and North Korea’s defiant president, King Jung -Un pushing the world to a state of crisis through his obstinate attitude. There are those with Anti-West sentiments who would say America are acting like bullies, always trying to be the world’s policeman. Those views lack the acknowledgement and awareness that the world has agreed under international treaties that each country should cease the production of nuclear weapons for the sake of world peace. North Korea has shown rogue tendencies that should be deeply concerning to all nations of the todays world. King Jung-Un executed his own Uncle, North Korea has never been known for being a country that observes human right laws.
They cannot be trusted to have and develop full blown nuclear weapons. North Korea may have managed to get to the first stage of their development process, but this disaster shows just how fragile the whole game plan of this country is. It may already be game over for their grand plan to try and be on equal footing with the Western world.
