The Northern part of Nigeria is known to be one of the weakest in the country educationally, although the ruling government has often come from the North.

The North has its clever people, but the absence of opportunities for many of the inhabitants of one of the most religious parts of the country has led to extremism or horrific law breaking for many of those without  clear purpose of direction.

A lot more rape is believed to go unreported in Nigeria, especially in a country where evidence has to be really concrete to successfully bring charges against culprits.
