Hundreds of thousands of cancelled hospital operations have been unrecorded because of failures in the NHS system, according to an investigation.
NHS figures show over 700,000 operations were cancelled in the last year. Of this figure, over 75,000 operations were postponed at the last moment.
The disturbing figures call for the need for an urgent overhaul of the the national health service. The NHS has long been a troubled institution with complaints of underfunding and excess pressure on NHS staff.
Insufficient pay has also been raised as a core issue putting pressure on the system, and leading to a number of strikes over the years.
The BBC reported that 74 hospitals in England provided data suggesting they had cancelled 41, 474 operations on the day before admission.
And the same official figures show that over 700,000 planned operations in England were cancelled at the last moment, with 7.7 million operations cancelled.
The statistics are truly disturbing and puts patients at severe risk. The NHS is an important sector of government services, making failings of this magnitude shameful to.every governent that presides over it.
